REVIEW: Innisfree Jeju Volcanic Pore Cleansing Foam

09/14/201705/17/2019

I blogged a few months ago about how I started the Korean Double Cleanse. My face feels cleaner and I am noticing that my skin is also clearer!

After I finished my last water based cleanser (Estee Lauder Soft Clean Moisture Rich Foaming Cleanser) I decided to try something new. I asked a friend what she was using and she recommended the Innisfree Jeju Volcanic Pore Cleansing Foam so I decided to give it a try.

Innisfree Jeju Volcanic Pore Cleansing Foam

The Innisfree Jeju volcanic pore cleansing foam is billed as a cleanser which contains little bits of volcanic scoria from the Korean island of Jeju to absorb sebum and to purify pores. The scoria is an alkaline substance.

Packaging & Price Point

The cleanser comes in a tube packaging which is very hygienic. The tube I purchased is 5.09 oz. I believe it also comes in a 10 oz sized tube. Shelf life is listed as 36 months after initial opening.

Price point is fairly affordable. I paid about $10 at Amazon and it’s such a large tube for how much you use, it will last a long time.

Application

I find that a pea sized squeeze is all I need to lather up and cover my entire face. I think this means my tube will last FOREVER since it is huge for the small amount of product that I use!  Haha.

I take special care to avoid the eye area, as I accidently got it in my eyes once and it stung a bit. Nothing serious, but it was unpleasant.

Results

My face feels squeaky clean after I wash using this cleanser. I’ve read that this is actually not really the feeling you want when you wash your face, but gosh it feels so good. I guess it’s like a “hurts so good” thing?  Haha!  According to Fifty Shades of Snail, the squeaky feeling is your moisture barrier being stripped away. Nooooo! After I wash my face, I don’t feel *tight* though, so perhaps it is ok for my skin… at least I hope it is!

My new favorite cleanser – Banila Co Clean It Zero Cleansing Balm Review

04/27/201706/30/2017

For years and years when I was cleaning my face I always thought the tight feeling when I was done meant that my face was squeaky clean. Little did I know that I was stripping away oils and contributing to an endless cycle of excess oil production and an oily face!

Once I stopped doing that, I found out that I didn’t have oily skin… I actually had “normal” skin.

I started using Asian beauty products last year when a friend told me about them. Korean Beauty is all about natural, dewy skin. I read about the 10-step regimen and while it sounds really intimidating, you don’t necessarily need to do all 10 steps, everyday!  One of the items that was intriguing was the double cleanse. I noticed that my toner pad sometimes still had traces of makeup and dirt, even after I washed my face and took a shower.

Double Cleanse

The double cleanse is exactly what it sounds like–you wash your face two times. First, you wash with an oil based cleanser which gets rid of oil based debris. This cleans your makeup off, sebum and other oil based grime. You rinse off the oil based cleaner and then you wash with a foaming cleanser which gets rid of everything else.

You want to apply the oil based cleanser with DRY hands and on a DRY face!  Otherwise you’ll emulsify the cleanser too soon and it won’t be able to do its job as effectively.

Banila Clean It Zero Review

Banila Clean It Zero

Banila Clean It Zero is billed as a cleansing balm. I guess that is a great way to describe the consistency of it! It behaves a bit like coconut oil — solid at room temperature, but once you start massaging it onto your face, it becomes soft and like an oil.

Packaging

Banila Clean It Zero comes in a jar package. The container looks a little like frosted glass but it’s actually just plastic.  It comes with a seal on top of the product and a little plastic spatula to help you dispense the product. The box had a security seal on it as well.

Banila Clean It Zero Review – I like that there’s a security seal on top of the product.

Application

I take about  an almond sized amount out with the included spatula and massage it all over my face for about a minute. I take special care to carefully clean my eye makeup off. I use a Lancome waterproof mascara and this is able to clean the mascara off completely!

Banila Clean It Zero Review
Banila Clean It Zero Review – I took way too much out the first time. Start with an almond sized amount to begin with.

Results

My face feels clean, but not tight or stripped. I follow up with my second cleanser, though I haven’t found one that I *love* yet. I’ve tried Estee Lauder’s Soft Clean Moisture Rich Foaming Cleanser, Aveeno Positively Radiant Brightening Cleanser and Spectro Jel Fragrance Free Cleanser. I’ve found that when I follow up with my toner pad, it is now clean!

I’ve been washing my hair on a daily basis since I was a teen, and while I know it’s not the ideal thing to do for my hair, I just can’t seem to break the habit. If I don’t wash on a daily basis before bed, I feel greasy and gross.

Lately, even though I have been maintaining my daily wash, I have been feeling kind of greasy when I wake up the next morning! I started noticing LOTS of flakes and was freaking out. I tried Head & Shoulders shampoo but I felt that it was actually making it worse.  In fact I’m still a little mystified how I could have both oily hair but dry scalp!?

A friend recommended that I give an “oily hair” shampoo a try — for instance, something with tea tree oil. I was browsing Trader Joe’s and I spotted the Trader Joe’s Tea Tree Tingle Shampoo and thought I would give it a try.

I’m so glad I did because I’m loving it! I have been using it for the past 2 weeks and my hair feels squeaky clean again. No more greasy feeling in the morning (or even a full 24 hours after my last wash) and NO MORE FLAKES!

I’m loving the minty smell and I really do feel the tingle after I use the shampoo, particularly around the hairline area.  As a bonus, the shampoo is vegan and is sulfate and paraben-free.
